Wreck dive sites
HTMS Sattakut
Sattakut lies approximately 40m south of Hin Peewee with her bow facing Northwest, sitting upright. The top of the wreck is around 20m and the bottom is at about 32m. When it was sunk as a part of an artificial reef project in 2011, the wreck landed on its starboard side in a different location from where it is now. It was only after a few months that its position was corrected and was put back upright that more and more people started to dive there. Now it is one of the most popular dive sites on Koh Tao. This site should not missed.
This is a great dive for levels Advanced Open Water and above, but more importantly a perfect training dive for technical diver training, and as it is a very open wreck with lots of entry and exit points it makes a good training wreck for courses such as PADI Wreck Diver and TDI Advanced Wreck courses.
From 22 to 30 m deep. For Advanced levels and above.
MV Trident
Located just south of Shark Island, the MV Trident sits down at 35m. She was deliberately sunk in 2010, to form a new artificial reef and wreck diving site in a sheltered bay on Koh Tao.
From 28m – 35m deep. For Advanced level and above.
HTMS Suphairin - 313
The HTMS Suphairin is one of two wrecks sunk in September 2023, lying just 15m North-West of No Name Pinnacle.
After 42 years of service, these ships were decommissioned in 2018 and transferred to the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources for a new mission as part of the Underwater Learning Park and Marine Ecosystem Rehabilitation Project in Surat Thani Province. Their sinking marks a unique fusion of history and marine conservation, offering divers an opportunity to explore the relics of Thailand’s naval heritage.
From 11m-27m deep. For Advanced levels.
HTMS Hanhak Sattru - 312
The HTMS Hanhak Sattru is the second boat that was sunk in September 2023. It is the same class of ship as HTMS Saphairin (identical boats), a high-speed attack ship. It is located just at the mouth of Mao Bay. The HTMS Suphairin and HTMS Hanhak Sattru wrecks, along with the existing popular wreck dives, the HTMS Sattakut and MV Trident, make Koh Tao a fantastic wreck diving location.
From 12m – 24m deep. For Advanced levels.
